You Do You

YOU DO YOU

If I’m always teaching you how to get into action and giving you tips and strategies, why today am I saying, “You Do You”? Shouldn’t I be imparting my wisdom to move you forward and give you direction to get into motion? Well, yes I do want you to do those things, but today, my message is simple, You Do You!

In the world we live in, there are so many messages being hurled at you from every corner of the universe. While social media can offer so many positive aspects to our lives, it can also pose many challenges. Knowing what everyone else is doing on a daily basis can be a blessing and a curse. How are you supposed to move forward with your life and your goals while constantly being bombarded with what everybody else is doing?  It is quite a mountain to climb for you to continue moving along in your own lane while every other person you know, and many you don’t, are sharing their thoughts, actions, successes and just about everything else!!

Here are 5 tips to keep you focused on yourself and make sure that you are thinking about your own goals, in your own way, and at your own pace.

5 TIPS TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO YOU:

MAKE A DATE: Take one hour out of your busy crazy life and sit down by yourself to think about where you are now and what you want. I suggest you focus on one area of your life that you’re trying to improve at this time. If you don’t do it that way, it can become too overwhelming. Take an hour and commit to really deciding what is most important to you. Sit alone with no distractions and just think.

2) WRITE IT DOWN: Let’s make it official.  Whether you want to handwrite it on a piece of paper or type it into a computer document, writing it down will increase your chances of success by a landslide. It will help you with reaching your goals and also doing it in your own way. The purpose of this blog is to teach you how to be true to doing what is right for you. And by writing down what you want, you are taking another step towards doing just that.

3) TUNE IT OUT: Okay now here’s the hard part. You need to tune out the noise around you. If you are still going to spend time on social media (and who isn’t), you need to make a commitment to yourself. You must stay true to what your goals and plans are. Do some self reflecting and check your mood as you are on social media. How do you feel while you are scrolling through Facebook or Instagram? And how do you feel when you’re done? Are you happy and elated after a session on social media? Or do you feel defeated and down? If it’s the latter, I highly recommend you either cut back or train your brain to tune out what everybody else is doing so that you can do you.

4) MAKE A PLAN: Now is your chance to decide what is going to be your best way to be true to yourself. I’m always a fan of making a plan and that is what I’m suggesting you do as well. It does not have to be a major ordeal, long-term plan, or a complete business document. But it does need to be a way for you to know the steps to take to move forward and get where you want to go. My suggestion is to outline the 5 steps you’re going to take to get to where you want to be with this part of your life. If you can do it on your own, that’s great. If you need help and support or guidance, make sure to seek it out. Come up with a plan that feels right to you so that you can do you.

5) TAKE THE FIRST STEP:  Now you’re ready to take the first step. What is the very first thing that you can do to move forward on what is important specifically to you? The first step should take no more than 30 minutes and should be something that is neither easy nor impossible. Most likely it is something you have been pushing off and avoiding or else you would have done it already. And when 30 minutes are done, walk away from this task. When you give yourself a time limit, you are far more likely to get started and continue moving forward. Be true to your promise that each time you take one of these first steps, you are going to stop after 30 minutes. Then you will trust yourself and even when you don’t feel like doing something, you will do it because you know that you can do anything for just 30 minutes.

There you go, your 5 step plan to enable you to do you! It may not always feel comfortable, but you can do it! You’ll be happier and more likely to get where you want to go, if You Do You!
